The theory of cable importance proposes: The physical obscurity of a cable is directly influenced by its importance. 

The physical obscurity of a cable can fall into one or both of the following categories: appearance and location.

Appearance

- A cable of high importance will always have the same color of all objects around it (usually other cables).

- A cable of high importance will never have its ends exposed to the world.  Like a snake seeking solitude, its ends will be tightly coiled up and hidden from danger and to avoid detection.

- Extremely important cables will never have an end which is duplicated by any other cord in existence.  Truly important cables follow the Highlander motto “There can be only one”.

Location

- Cable location is directly impacted by the cable’s importance.  Many important cables seek the safety of the inside of a “cable ball”.  Preferring to obscure themselves from view (see appearance).

- Truly important cables are preserved by owners in an I-won’t-forget-where-this-is-now! location.  These important but usually hidden locations include the back of desk drawers, entertainment centers or “junk” drawers.

- A cable will only be in its home location when it is NOT being looked for.  A cables visibility decreases as its importance increases.
